Volunteers Needed to Help Stop 70 Beagles From Being Used for Experiments

Dear Animal Lovers,

PETA India needs your help urging authorities to investigate the wrongful importation of 70 beagles marked as "pets" into India. It appears that the dogs may actually be used in experiments at Advinus Therapeutics, and PETA has informed authorities that we stand ready to confiscate the dogs and find them good homes.

The demonstration will be held from 12 noon to 1 pm on 15 November outside the Animal Quarantine and Certification Services office, which is located at 83, Velachery Main Road, Pallikaranai, Chennai.

If the dogs reach the laboratory, they will likely be subjected to cruel toxicity tests in which they will be injected with or force-fed chemicals, experimental drugs or pesticides in increasingly higher doses until they become very sick or die.

We need volunteers to wear white jumpsuits and dog masks and hold a banner and placards demanding the release of the dogs. If you are interested, please let me know right away by contacting me at ChaitanyaK@petaindia.org. Please include your mobile numbers.

We ask all participants to meet at the demonstration site by 11:15 am sharp for a briefing, to collect costumes and to get in place before the demonstration begins. Please let me know if you plan to attend – we kindly request that you arrive on time. Please RSVP to me at ChaitanyaK@petaindia.org.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Dr Chaitanya Koduri
Science Policy Adviser

Buy a Calender - Help people who help animals!

Dear Friends
As the year 2011 draws to a close, we would like to thank you for all the support you have given us by volunteering, helping us find missing pets, donating to the shelter and adopting homeless animals. We are now looking forward to a great 2012 and have welcomed several new members, both human and animal into our family. Please celebrate with us by buying a 2012 calendar, proceeds of which will go to the feeding and medical expenses of rescued animals at our Velachery shelter.

Titled 'Seva', the calendar features spectacular black and white shots of twelve animals who live at the shelter (image from September attached). It tells the story of how they were rescued and also ends with simple steps that everyone can take to make the world a more compassionate place. Many of us are moved by the plight of homeless animals but are unsure of what we can do to help. The SEVA calendar is our attempt to educate the public about how we can each make a difference. For example, we appeal to people to adopt a homeless pet instead of buying one from a pet store or breeder. We also suggest easy resources that tell you which companies perform painful tests on animals and which ones don't. From doe-eyed donkeys to cuddly white mice, playful kittens to graceful horses, the Seva calendar hopes to prove that it is possible for each rescued animal to live a comfortable, cruelty-free life, if we as a society put our minds to it. Calendars are priced at Rs 200 each (excluding courier charges) and can be ordered online onwww.bluecrossofindia.org , by calling 9176025265 or emailing bluecrossofindia@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for your order!
Best wishes and may 2012 bring you peace and happiness
